Farm Bureau announces annual contest winners

The Claiborne County Farm Bureau has announced the 2017 winners for the fourth grade poster contest and the seventh grade essay contest.

This contest is held statewide and sponsored by the Tennessee Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom and the Tennessee Farm Bureau Women’s Organization. The contests were open for all fourth and seventh graders in the county. Each participating school had a first and second place winner in each contest. From the first place winners of each school a first, second and third place county winner was selected. First place school winners of the poster contest received $20 and second place school winners received $10. First place school winners of the essay contest received $50 and second place school winners received $25. County winners received an additional $50, $35 and $25 for first, second and third places, respectively.

The winners of the poster contest for Claiborne County are: First place, Jessica Good from Springdale Elementary, second place, Jayden Brooks from Powell Valley Elementary, and third place, Miriam Peoples from Midway Elementary. The winners of the essay contest for Claiborne County are: First place, Gage Piercy from Heritage Christian Academy, second place, Makenzie Walker from SMMS, and third place, Steven Dziadul from Powell Valley.

Poster contest winners by school are: From Ellen Meyers, Emilee Money (first) and Callie Hoskins (second); from Heritage, Julianna Swain (first) and Alexis Miracle (second); from Midway, Miriam Peoples (first) and Christopher Rose (second); from Forge Ridge, Hailey Daniels (first) and Riley Messer (second); from Powell Valley, Jayden Brooks (first) and Jordan Bean (second); from Springdale, Jessica Good (first) and Trinity Mabe (second); and from TNT, Madison Smith (first) and Kylee Mullins (second).

Essay contest winners by school are: From Heritage, Gage Piercy (first) and Emily Jones (second); from Powell Valley, Steven Dziadul (first) and James Cody Myers (second); and from SMMS, Makenzie Walker (first) and Lucas Schmidt (second).

The contests are held statewide for all counties. First place poster winners from the county will have their entries submitted to the state contest. Winners of the poster contest at the state level will receive $200 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place. Winners at the state level for the essay contest will receive $400 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place.

Tennessee Farm Bureau has over 640,000 member families across the state. Claiborne County Farm Bureau has over 6,300 member families. The Claiborne County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee would like to thank all students, parents, and teachers for their efforts to make this contest successful and we look forward to next year’s contests.
