Farm Bureau holds annual Poster and Essay Contest

The Claiborne County Farm Bureau is proud to announce the 2016 winners for the fourth grade poster contest and the seventh grade essay contest. This contest is held statewide and sponsored by the Tennessee Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom and the Tennessee Farm Bureau Women’s Organization.

The contests were open for all fourth and seventh graders in the county. Each participating school had a first and second place winner in each contest. From the first place winners of each school a first, second and third place county winner was selected. First place school winners of the poster contest received $20, and second place school winners received $10. First place school winners of the essay contest received $50, and second place school winners received $25. County winners received an additional $50, $35 and $25 for first, second, and third place, respectively.

The winners of the poster contest for Claiborne County are: First place, Dustin Trent Jenkins II from Powell Valley Elementary, second place, Kaylee Daniels from Forge Ridge Elementary and third place, Karen Teachout from Midway Elementary.

The winners of the essay contest for Claiborne County are: First place, Will Fugate from SMMS, second place, Carson Daniels from Forge Ridge and third place, Lillie Hash from Powell Valley.

Poster contest winners by school are: From Ellen Myers, Isabella Goins (first) and Emily Laws (second); from Heritage, Kate Tull (first) and Allie Cosby (second); from Midway, Karen Teachout (first) and Abbi Hinton (second); from Forge Ridge, Kaylee Daniels (first) and Chloe Miracle and Memphis Houston tied (second); from Powell Valley, Dustin Trent Jenkins II (first) and Hyrum Hinckley and Jonah Ellison tied for second.

Essay contest winners by school are: From Heritage, Bijan Ghabussi (first) and Olivia Nichols (second); from Powell Valley, Lilly Hash (first) and Kayli Hinckley (second); from SMMS, Will Fugate (first) and Cassie Smith (second): from Forge Ridge, Carson Daniels, first.

The contests are held statewide for all counties. First place poster winners from the county will have their entries submitted to the state contest. Winners of the poster contest at the state level will receive $200 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place. Winners at the state level for the essay contest will receive $400 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place.

Tennessee Farm Bureau’s mission statement, adopted in 1923, is “To develop, foster, promote and protect programs for the general welfare, including economic, social, educational and political well-being of farm people of the great state of Tennessee.”

Tennessee Farm Bureau has over 640,000 member families across the state. Claiborne County Farm Bureau has over 6,300 member families. The Claiborne County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee would like to thank all students, parents, and teachers for their efforts to make this contest successful and we look forward to next year’s contests.
