Applications are being taken for the newest Leadership Claiborne class.

The Leadership Claiborne program began in 1998 to satisfy Three Star requirements and to promote the following:

• To improve the community’s leadership stock.

• To promote community involvement.

• To bring emerging leaders to the forefront.

• To facilitate projects that will have a positive impact on the community.

• To educate area constituency on issues of importance.

• To develop an ongoing network of community leaders.

Each Leadership class must initiate and complete a class project. Since its inception several class projects have benefited the county and community through the civic and volunteer spirit and sheer determination of class members. The projects serve as a mechanism to learn interactive and organizational skills in dealing with civic and government bodies. These projects have included a Claiborne County website, a Claiborne County Resource Guide and Fact Sheet, Leadership 2000 Scholarship Fund, Needham Hollow/Cedar Grove Boat Ramp and parking lot paving, lighting and improvements, Youth Leadership Program in area high schools, Gose Municipal Park improvements, county beautification – Adopt-A-Highway Community Participation Project, Paws for Cause – Fundraising for Claiborne County Animal Shelter, hiking/biking trail partnerships and map, high schools signage, beautification of the county seat, outdoor furniture for local nursing homes and many others.

Applications are being taken now with a deadline of Aug. 12. The selection process is under way, with the class orientation in late August and the first class scheduled for September. Applicants must agree to be available one day per month during business hours for the nine-month program that ends in April 2017.

For an application or more information, visit the Claiborne Economic Partnership office (the Claiborne County Chamber of Commerce), call 423-626-4149 or visit the website at https://www.claibornepartnership.com.
