The Claiborne County Grand Jury returned several indictments during its July session including a couple for Christopher Scott Middleton, 30, indicted under one true bill with eight counts allegedly occurring during a series of incidents on April 9.
Middleton was indicted on two counts of aggravated burglary and one count each of aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, criminal impersonation, theft of property valued up to $60,000 and driving on a revoked license.
Under the second bill, Middleton was indicted for one count of forgery allegedly occurring during an incident on Dec. 4.
A true bill was returned on Billy Dean Smith, 36, indicted on one count each of aggravated assault allegedly occurring on Nov. 16 and of alleged forgery on May 18, 3015.
Jennifer Lee Ray, 33, was indicted on two counts of vehicular assault and one count each of driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, failure to maintain traffic lane and to exercise due care during a series of incidents allegedly occurring on April 18.
Steven A. Cottrell, 26, was indicted on driving under the influence (second offense) during an incident allegedly occurring on June 21, 2014. Cottrell was previously convicted of driving under the influence in the District Court of Harlan County, Kentucky on Jan. 5, 2010.
A true bill was returned on Rebecca Sue Rouse, 46, indicted on six counts including the introduction of contraband into a penal facility. Rouse was also indicted under this true bill for tampering with evidence, theft of services, possession of methamphetamine, simple possession of a schedule VI drugs (marijuana) and drug paraphernalia during events allegedly occurring on Dec. 14.
Rouse was indicted under a second true bill for the simple possession of methamphetamine during an event allegedly occurring on Feb. 6.
A third true bill was returned by the grand jury on Rouse for one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication during an event allegedly occurring on Dec. 22.
Coy Shaw Smith, 38, was indicted on one count each of aggravated assault, promotion of methamphetamine manufacture, evading arrest and driving on a revoked license during incidents allegedly occurring on April 4.
A true bill was returned on Terry D. Herrell, 36, indicted on one count each of possession of methamphetamine and criminal impersonation during incidents allegedly occurring on Oct. 14.
The grand jury indicted three suspects under one true bill. Ryan John Bonar, 31, Jodi Miranda Collins, 19, and Elizabeth Ann Smith, 29, were indicted for possession of methamphetamine during an event allegedly occurring on Nov. 9.
Billy Wayne Kelley, 46, indicted on one count each of driving under the influence and possession of a schedule II controlled substance with the intent to sell during incidents allegedly occurring on April 8, 2015.
A true bill was returned on Christopher Michael Geesey, 24, indicted on one count each of driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and violation of the financial responsibility law during events allegedly occurring on April 18, 2015.
Curtis Lee Mills, 32, was indicted on one count of filing a false report during an event allegedly occurring on March 10.
Five suspects were indicted by the grand jury under one true bill. Christopher A. Vanover, 28, Benjamin Wayne Hopson, 29, Jeffrey Derek Taylor, 27, Gregory Scott Reed, 30, and Kevin Veach, 30, were indicted on one count of vandalism over $1,000 during an incident allegedly occurring on March 25.
Jeffrey Lee Walker, 34, was indicted on one count of public intoxication allegedly occurring during an incident on March 20.
An indictment does not indicate guilt. It does indicate that the grand jury found enough evidence to warrant sending the case to trial.
