HARROGATE, Tenn. — Jacob Carver, of Oneida, Tennessee, was awarded Lincoln Memorial University’s (LMU) R. Martin Peters Young Alumnus of the Year Award during LMU’s annual Homecoming celebration.
The award is named after Dr. Martin Peters, an LMU graduate who became a prolific supporter and ambassador of his alma mater. The recipient is a person who embodies those same qualities for which Peters was known.
Carver is well on his way to a long and distinguished career as an educator. Since crossing the Tex Turner Arena stage as valedictorian in 2012, he has furthered his education and added two more degrees from LMU. He earned a master’s of education in school counseling in 2015 and an educational specialist degree in 2016 and he is currently pursuing a doctor of education.
Carver started his teaching career at Forge Ridge School where he immersed himself into the school community by coaching the middle school math Olympics team and serving as assistant coach for the boys’ basketball team and head coach for the boys’ golf team. His team won several awards and the boys’ basketball team won the 2012 county championship. Carver was also named Educator of the Month by Knoxville radio station B97.5 and Forge Ridge Teacher of the Year during his tenure.
Carver joined the faculty of the J. Frank White Academy (JFWA) in 2014, and now teaches middle and high school mathematics. He resurrected the JFWA baseball program which had not fielded a team in five years. Carver also serves as the high school golf coach and has taken several students to math competitions. Last year, Carver led the Academy’s team to victory at the University of Tennessee Pro2Serve Math Scavenger Hunt.
Carver is the son of Joe and Debbie Carver.
