An investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has led to the indictment of a nurse practitioner on prescription fraud charges.

On Aug. 10, after being contacted by the Tennessee Department of Health Division of Health Related Boards, TBI Special Agents with the Drug Investigation Division began investigating allegations that Tracy Leigh Coffey was using her position as a nurse practitioner to fraudulently obtain controlled substances. Information obtained during the investigation showed that between Oct. 2012 and Aug. 2015, while working at two medical practices in Morristown, Coffey allegedly fraudulently wrote and called in prescriptions in an effort to obtain hydrocodone and tizanidine pills.

On Nov. 1, the Hamblen County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Coffey, 47, of Rutledge, with eight counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. Coffey was recently arrested and booked into the Hamblen County Jail on a $24,000 bond.
