A truck driver died Wednesday night as the result of a wreck on U.S. Hwy. 25E in Harrogate.
According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer driven by Donald D. Bratton, 65, of Hickory, North Carolina, was traveling north on U.S. Hwy. 25E when it went off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle drove into the ditch line and continued down the ditch line, striking a culvert and driving over a driveway entrance. The truck came to a final rest in the ditch line.
Reports from witnesses at the scene Wednesday night claimed the wreck occurred near the Powell River Bridge.
The wreck occurred around 11:50 p.m. The tractor-trailer, a 2014 Freightliner which was empty of cargo, was the only vehicle involved.
Trooper Jeremy Shelton is the investigating officer. He determined that Bratton was wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
