Free Classes
The Claiborne County Adult High School is now offering free classes for students to earn credits to receive their Tennessee state high school diploma. Flexible scheduling is available for both day and evening classes. For more information, contact the Adult High School at 423-626-8222.
Town of Tazewell Meetings
The board meetings for the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the Town of Tazewell are conducted at Tazewell City Hall at 1830 Main Street, the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. The BMA Workshops are on Wednesday, prior to the scheduled board meeting at 6 p.m. as needed. The Planning Commission Meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. The public is invited to attend these meetings.

The regular monthly meetings for the Town of Cumberland Gap Board of Mayor and Alderman will be held the first Monday evening of every month at 7 p.m. at the Cumberland Gap Town Hall, 330 Colwyn Street, Cumberland Gap. The Cumberland Gap Beer Board meeting follows the board meeting each month. At least one week before the regular scheduled meeting the board meets in a study session to review and finalize the agenda. That meeting starts at 6 p.m. and is usually held the Monday before the regular scheduled meeting. Both meetings are open to the public.

Youth Basketball Signups
TNT Youth Basketball signups will be held Tuesday and Thursday nights in November from 6-8 p.m. at Hardee’s in Tazewell. TNT Youth Basketball is open to boys and girls ages 5-15.

Bee Friends
Interested in beekeeping and meeting beekeepers? Whether you are looking for information or just curious, you are welcome to join Bee Friends, a local beekeeping group. We meet monthly, on the first Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Tazewell Campus of Walters State in the auditorium. There will not be a meeting in December. This is a great time to check the group out, just ask questions, and meet others with all levels of experience, especially if you are interested in learning more about bees next year. Bagged Leaf Pick-Up
There will be a curbside pick-up of bagged leaves for the Town of Tazewell residents continuing through the month of December. This is specifically leaves; no brush will be picked up. Please call the Tazewell City Hall to request your pick-up at 423-626-5104.
LMU Christmas Festival
The Lincoln Memorial University will kick off the season with a Christmas Festival, sponsored by the LMU Women of Service, on Nov. 30 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. in the tent at the large campus quad parking lot. LMU Women of Service will be serving soup, drink and dessert for $5 and hosting a silent auction. Vendors will be set up with a variety of items, face painting and crafts will be available for the kids and there will be free blood pressure checks from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday and from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday.
The Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra featuring the LMU Concert Choir will perform two free concerts with a donation to Mission of Hope in the Sam and Sue Mars Performing Arts Center in Duke Hall on Dec. 1 at 4 and 7:30 p.m.
The annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on the Quad at 6:30 p.m. and is free of charge with a Mission of Hope donation. Everyone is invited to attend all of these events.
TNT Winter Fest
TNT Primary School will hold its Winter Fest Dec. 2 from 5-7:30 p.m. with an auction beginning at 7:30. There will be games, food, entertainment, BINGO and fun for all ages. The public is invited to attend.
Victorian Christmas in the Gap
The Victorian Christmas in the Historic Town of Cumberland Gap will be held Dec. 3. Father and Mother Christmas will see children from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 517 Colwyn Avenue, followed by cookies and cider with Father and Mother Christmas from 4-5 p.m. at Festival Park with a photo opportunity. The tree lighting will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the reading of the original Christmas story from the book of Luke. Each business in town will be having open house, with a door prize drawing.
PVES Holiday Vendor Fair
Calling local vendors and crafters — Powell Valley Elementary School is holding a Holiday Vendor Fair on Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Powell Valley Middle School Cafeteria. The PVES PTIA is in search of local vendors and crafters who are interested in participating in the first annual Holiday Vendor Fair. Driver License Safety Checkpoints
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting driver license roadside safety checkpoints during the week of Dec. 4-10 on State Routes 32, 33 and 63 in Claiborne County and on State Route 33 in Hancock County. Recognizing the danger presented to the public by unqualified drivers, troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who would violate the driver license laws of Tennessee. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has found these driver license roadside safety checkpoints to be an effective means of enforcing driver license laws of Tennessee while ensuring the protection of all motorists.
CGHS Benefit for Tyler Nelson
‘A Nelson Christmas’ will be held Dec. 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Cumberland Gap High School to benefit Tyler Nelson and his family. Nelson is currently at St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma. There will be a silent cake auction and Christmas skits. Hosted by Panther Productions, admission is $2 per person and all proceeds will go to the Nelson family.

Arthur Community Center Association
The Arthur Community Center Restoration Organization has regular meetings the second Thursday and fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Arthur Community Center. Homeless Veterans Reintegration Project
Outreach workers Tommy Brooks and Erin Haverland will be available to assist eligible veterans with enrollment in HVRP. The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Project helps veterans find secure employment through case management, job training, and referrals and links with other local service providers. The Animal Welfare League of Claiborne County is sponsoring a free spay/neuter for dogs and cats in the Claiborne County area for families with income less than $30,000 per year, depending upon the number of people in the household.
